The steel wire rope should be cleaned and other preparatory work before lubrication to fully re-lubricate and make the newly added grease play a full role. Using new grease without removing the existing dry grease will destroy the re-lubrication function, because the existing grease often dries out and has lost its lubrication function.
When the old grease is removed from the surface of the wire rope, it can be re-lubricated. Many applications, such as container gantry cranes, have automatic oil injection lubricators that continuously fuel the wire rope. For this type of re-lubrication, due to time or cost reasons, the system cannot be turned off in time or additional grease is added. The other most cost-effective method is to apply grease manually. Lubrication can be done using a compressed air spray system or simple tools such as brushes or rags. When using manual application methods, care must be taken to ensure even application. Too much and too little grease will be counterproductive, a uniform grease film can achieve the best lubrication effect. For wire ropes with diameters between 10mm and 30mm, canned atomizing grease can be used. This practical canning spray allows a uniform oil mist to adhere to the wire rope.
