Differences Between Standards For Hot-dip Galvanized Cable

Hot-dip galvanized cable is an important material widely used in construction, navigation and other fields. It can provide sufficient strength and stability to cope with various risks and challenges. With the continuous growth of market demand, different countries and regions have formulated a series of standards for hot-dip galvanized steel wire rope, including international standards, European standards, American standards and Chinese standards. Although these standards are all committed to ensuring the quality and performance of hot-dip galvanized cable, there are still differences in details.

First, different standards have different requirements for the coating thickness of hot-dip galvanizing. According to the international standard ISO 1461, the minimum average coating thickness of galvanized cable should be 65μm, while the Chinese standard GB/T 20118-2006 and the American standard ASTM A475-03 require the minimum average coating thickness to be 61μm and 100g/m² respectively. The difference is mainly caused by differences in manufacturing processes, material properties and market demand.

Secondly, different standards also have subtle differences in the classification standards for strength grades. The international standard ISO 2408 divides the strength grade of hot-dip galvanized cable into four grades: 1570, 1770, 1960 and 2160, while the European standard EN 12385-4 divides it into 7 grades, ranging from 1570 N/mm² to 2160 N/mm². In addition, there are certain differences between the Chinese and American standards, which are mainly determined by the differences in the drafting units of the standards and market demand.

Finally, there are differences in details between different standards. For example, different standards have different requirements for the appearance quality, detection methods, dimensional tolerances and other related performance requirements of steel wire ropes. Therefore, when selecting and using hot-dip galvanized cable, we should choose products that meet local national and regional standards according to actual needs.

In short, although different standards have certain differences for hot-dip galvanized cables, their goal is to ensure the quality and performance of the products and ensure their safe and reliable use. Therefore, we should actively pay attention to the differences between these standards so that when selecting and using hot-dip galvanized cables, we can better understand the performance and characteristics of the products and avoid risks and hidden dangers. At the same time, we should also actively participate in the formulation and improvement of standards to promote industrial development and progress.
