What Is The Difference Between Steel Wire And Wire Rope?

Wire is typically a single cylindrical flexible metallic core used to transmit electrical or telecommunication signals or to withstand mechanical loads.

Ropes, whereas, are often used as structural components that are not bundled, but are assumed to have some mechanical strength. The term "wire" is also used in a looser sense to refer to bundles of strands such as, for example, "stranded wire".

Wire usually has a round cross-section and bars are larger, stiffer versions of wire, but both can be made into square, hexagonal, flat rectangular, or other cross-sections for decorative, mechanical, or technical purposes.

Wire and rod are usually made by drawing or extruding. Pultrusion is a metalworking process that uses tensile forces to reshape metal by passing (drawing) or pushing (extrusion) it through a die of the desired cross-section to produce an object of a specific cross-sectional shape.
