What is Galvanization, galvanized?
Galvanizing refers to the process of coating steel or iron with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion and rust. The name comes from the Italian scientist Luigi Galvani.
There are several methods of galvanizing, including electroplating and electrochemical techniques. However, the most widely used method today is hot-dip galvanizing, where steel components are immersed in molten zinc to form a protective coating.
Hot-dip galvanizing creates a relatively thick and durable zinc layer, which offers strong protection in many environments. In some cases, such as automotive applications, this coating may be thicker than necessary, so a thinner zinc layer applied through electroplating-known as electro-galvanizing-is preferred.
